About

The Lefferts Gardens Charter School (LGCS) Parents Association (PA) supports LGCS in its mission, serves as a voice for parents in school governance, and creates opportunities for parents to participate in the life of the school. The PA acts as a liaison fostering strong, supportive relationships and open, clear communication between parents and the school staff, administration, Board, and community. Any parent or guardian of a student at the school is considered a member.

Events and Initiatives

Circle of Life Tree Care Project

We are tree stewards! The PA has adopted 12 street trees near the school. Parents, students, and staff will care for these trees. The Citizens Committee for New York City has generously offered support for our project.

Check out our project blog.

After School

The PA partners with the school and Performing Arts & Creative Classes (PACC) to offer an after-school program to LGCS students.

Parent Voice on the LGCS Board of Trustees

The PA President is an ex officio, nonvoting member of the LGCS Board of Trustees. In this role, the President reports on PA activities and voices parent ideas, requests, and concerns to the LGCS Board.

If you would like bring an idea or issue to the LGCS Board, the PA can help. Please contact us.

Parent volunteers play an important role at LGCS.

The main vehicle for volunteering is the LGCS Parent Association, which organizes the school's book fair, and events for students. Each classroom has at least one class parent who helps arrange for parents to volunteer in the classroom, reading to students, or assisting teachers and aides. Parents with a particular expertise can talk with students about their specialties. They can also serve as chaperones on the weekly field-study trips to educational sites in Brooklyn.
